Dennis McGrory was convicted of the murder of Jacqui Montgomery 15.
He raped and murdered her at her home in Islington, north London, in 1975.
He was tried for her murder in 1976 but aquitted. however, he was tried again in December 2022 and convicted.
He was charged after a DNA match was made after evidence from her body was rexamined. Dennis McGrory denied that he had ever been at the scene.
Jacqui Montgomery was found dead by her father in their living room on 2 June 1975. She had been stabbed, beaten about the face and strangled with an electrical flex from an iron.
The court heard that Dennis McGrory had been wild with rage at the time after he had been trying to find his ex-partner, who was Jacqui Montgomery's aunt.
